Minecraft Event! Microsoft Event! Other Updates!

Hello ACM!
It’s your former (shadow) president checking in.

Here are some important updates and announcements:

MICROSOFT EVENT

Microsoft’s Rock Paper Azure! A rock paper scissors game played in the cloud. A brief seminar will introduce players to the cloud and the requirements for the competition. Players program their bots to compete against each other in competition. Between rounds, teams are allowed to modify their bots to try and beat their opponents. More information can be found at http://www.rockpaperazure.com/
When: March 28th, 2:30 PM – 6:00 PM
Where: Location Not Yet Determined
MINECRAFT EVENT

Events will include Capture the Flag, a scavenger hunt, Spleef, and others that are still being decided on. Students will need to pre-register by sending an email to gjb7@njit.edu with their Minecraft username so that they can be added to the server whitelist to keep track of people and to ensure no cheating if they want to participate in the events.

There will be a second Minecraft server running for those who want to just build something. No pre-registrtation will be required to access that server. However, students who are not on campus will need to connect via the VPN to get access to that server. Details will be posted to http://njit.acm.org/minecraft/ on the day of the event on how to access it.

When: March 3rd, 2 PM
Where: Campus Center B35

PROJECT WHEATLEY

We are in the process of building a team of people who would like to help build a physical scale model of Wheatley. He will move around the room and interact with students, he will be able to speak to us and have an intelligent conversation with people in the office. There are lots of other cool things we would like to implement but we will need more people to help out! Engineers, programmers, designers, and whoever is committed to projects is welcome.
If you are interested in this project please email me at: bws5@njit.edu. We will invite you to the project management system.
LINKEDIN

I have created an NJIT ACM Group on LinkedIn in order to help create more connections among alumni, job opportunities, other companies, and our current student members.  If you are interested in signing up here is the page:
If you can not navigate to the page with this link, please search NJIT ACM on LinkedIn.
GOOGLE PLUS

Yes, Google Plus isn’t used a lot by the masses. Yes, Google Plus can be a burden to some. But “Yes!” we made a Google Group anyways! If you are interested in joining up, check out the link:

SIGs and Minutes

Hello ACM,

All of the stuff that was covered in our meeting is uploaded to our website. Here is the link: http://njit.acm.org/minutes/

Every time we have a meeting, our minutes will appear here.

Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience of no pizza. Next week we should have it instead. Let’s hope GDS doesn’t screw it up again.

Please respond back to this email if you want to lead a SIG. We will figure out what the official SIG leaders and meeting times are before our next meeting.

Here is the list of potential SIGs for the semester:

SIG Hardware (No leader)
SIG LINUX (P.J McDermott)
SIG Game Design (Rob Till)
SIG Graphic Design (Mike Shulman)
SIG Web Development (No leader)
SIG iOS Development (Grant Butler)
SIG Android Development (No leader)
SIG Programming (Anthony Pesce)
SIG Lego Mindstorms (No leader, possibly inactive this semester)
SIG Network Security (Brendan Van Brussel)
SIG Animation and 3D (Jerry Reynolds)
SIG Music Development (Marcos Brooks)
SIG Retro Computing (No leader)

Some SIGs already have leaders and some SIGs might not have enough interest to be active this semester. If I am missing any SIGs or if you have any other SIG ideas, please send me a response to this email.

If a SIG already has a leader, you can still inquire about being the official leader. If there are multiple people that want to be a leader of one SIG, I will send out an email discussing who should lead it officially.

Also, apologies if I missed a SIG. (Joe has the list, not me)

Thanks,

Ben
